Everybody knows the inhabitants of the Moon are called the Selenites. What people ignore is that they are unfamiliar with love and ambition. The Selemites were very surprised as they witnessed three human beings land on the Moon: the prince Caprice, the king Vlan and the astronomer Microscope. Their provisions, some elixirs and some apples, soon had some devastating impacts…

In 1875, Offenbach was phenomenally successful with this delirious fairytale opera inspired from two Jules Verne’s novels: From the Earth to the Moon and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Compelling songs, quirky or charming ballets, a lively choir and a farandole of outstanding characters compose this eventful plot which ends on an amazing earthlight.

Laurent Pelly and Agathe Mélinand have adapted this extraordinary work of art for the Opéra Comique’ stage and the many talents of the Maîtrise de l’Opéra Comique. Under the alert direction of Alexandra Cravero, the Frivolités Parisiennes enthusiastically revive this great musical comedy. Its music, originality and beautiful spirit will dazzle young and old.
